Land Use and Community Planning
We strongly believe that the best planning is achieved through successful collaboration between all members of the project team and across disciplines, and with full participation and input from client and stakeholder groups.
At Insight Civil, we believe in a comprehensive approach to planning in the built environment. Our Planning + Urban Design group has extensive experience working with clients in both the public and private sector. We employ a participatory and community-based approach to land use and community planning process that begins and ends with the needs of stakeholders and clients. Our planners have experience conducting design charrettes, developing stakeholder and community outreach programs, master plans and planning documents, urban design studies, performing geo-spatial and demographic analyses, environmental planning, public-speaking, and project management. |

Environmental Review and Permitting
Our planners understand that in order to bring projects from inception all the way to implementation phases, all regulatory and permitting requirements must be identified and fulfilled.
Planners at Insight Civil have extensive experience with local, state and federal permitting frameworks and regulatory systems governing project development. From local waterfront permits, to permits for buildings and construction, to environmental-related permits, our planning team will help clients develop a targeted permitting strategy to ensure that projects are successful and move forward in an efficient manner. In addition to expertise in permitting and regulatory approvals, planners at Insight Civil have prepared environmental review documents consistent with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), New York’s Sate Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA), and the New York City Environmental Quality Review (CEQR) framework. A strong environmental impact analysis encompasses a thorough examination of potential environmental impacts, review of highly technical information and translates it into a format that is readily accessible to policymakers, clients and the general public. |

Sustainability and Resiliency Planning
Major impacts of climate change are forecasted to include increased ambient temperatures, sea level rise as well as more frequent severe weather events including hurricanes, heavy downpours, heat waves, and droughts.
Our Planning + Urban Design team seeks to deliver best practices in sustainable urban development and adaptive design whenever possible. The principles of sustainability, resiliency and "the 3 E's" or "triple bottom line" (equity, environment and economy), are among the core themes of our planning and design ethos at Insight Civil. Our objective is to cultivate disruptive and incremental innovation that shifts design paradigms in the realms of engineering, planning and the built environment. We envision a more efficient and resilient future for urban communities through integrated design, which simultaneously strengthens and builds capacity of residents and stakeholders. |

Urban Design
We believe that nature is the master designer, architect and builder and that biomimicry will be a key influence in designing cities for future generations.
Beyond early stage land use planning and development strategy work, the Planning + Urban design group is focused on innovative approaches to design for improving the public realm. From urban design interventions for traffic calming, to developing wayfinding signage programs that minimize and/or do not contribute to ‘sign pollution’ or visual clutter in dense urban environments, the Planning + Urban Design group at Insight Civil frames design in the public realm with the end-users in mind. Additionally, planners at Insight Civil specialize in cartographic and geospatial data analysis using the latest versions of GIS software. Our analysts utilize ArcMap/ArcGIS software as a mapping tool to visualize information about community assets, patterns in the urban realm, event/scenario modeling to design for a changing climate and environment, and process large quantities of data. |
